The SWAP Box

Supplies Used for SWAPs
(this is what you are looking for at the craft store and how much it cost me)

Foam Sheets

My Michaels carries these in single 12" x 18"  sheets in a fairly wide assortment of colors, as well as multicolor multisheet packs.   Each sheet will easily do 24 SWAPs, if you teach your girls about not cutting into the middle of the sheet.  These are NOT self adhesive.

$0.99 per sheet (08/2011)
Chenille Stems

I found packs which had gradations of pink and purple, perfect for Juniors, at my Michaels, as well as packs of single colors, huge multipacks, even jumbo stems.

$0.99 per pack of 100 (08/2011)
Wooden Beads

Very useful as heads.  They were available in several different sizes, I got 12mm, but get whatever works.  There was also a larger package available at my Michaels.

$1.49 per pack of 16 (08/2011)
Yarn

I managed to grab this PERFECT ball of Sugar 'n Cream yarn for 99 cents on clearance.  The balls were usually $1.59, I believe.  Regular Sugar 'n Cream balls have 95 yds on them, but they do make super balls.

$0.99 per 95 yd ball (08/2011)
Silver and Gold Pony Beads

My Michaels carries a nice selection of pony beads, lots of single color packs, specialty packs, and variety packs, including this package of silver and gold.  It includes some fun shapes like hearts and stars.

$2.99 per pack of 300 (08/2011)
Self Adhesive Bar-Style Pinbacks

If you don't want to have your girls working a hot glue gun, or you are going to be making SWAPs at Camp, where there may not be electricity, these are WONDERFUL to have in your SWAP box.

$2.99 per pack of 60 (08/2011)
Megaphones

Get these at the end of November, when all the Homecoming Mum making supplies go on sale.  Otherwise they are kinda pricey for a SWAP.  But so perfect for aMuse!

$1.29 per pack of 3 (08/2011)
Themed Buttons

My Michaels carries a huge selection of novelty buttons which can be used in SWAPs.  They are generally shank style, but the shank can be cut off with a pair of wire cutters (or heavy duty scissors).  The size of the pack varies based on the buttons

$1.29 per pack of 10 (08/2011)
Self Adhesive Felt

My Michaels carries a wide selection of colors in single sheets, as well as multipacks.  I believe I even saw some interesting patterns that were self adhesive, such as tie-dye and animal print.  The sheets are 9"x12".

$0.99 per sheet (08/2011)

Equipment
(stuff you will use all the time, but won't have to replace each time)

Sharpies are one of my favorite tools of all time.  I try to keep at least one on me at all times, and two in the troop box!  They are great for labeling, adding detail to edges, coloring, writing on posterboard during meetings.  Buy them by the dozen! :)
When I say "cut" in instructions, I am talking about these type of scissors - student scissors.  If something cannot be cut by student scissors, I will say specifically what i used to cut it, whether it is wire cutters, heavy duty scissors, fabric only scissors, or even nail clippers.
When I say "glue" in instructions, I am talking school glue.  If the brand matters, I will mention what I used. If it needs a different adhesive, I will mention it.  If the project is just paper, gluesticks are acceptable, however I would not recommend them for anything else, unless you splurge on the really GOOD glue sticks.
